Acai Tea Benefits

Acai Tea Benefits have been known to generations of South Americans as being potent sources of antioxidants. But the sharp rise in demand for acai berries in the present time is traced to their purported abilities to bring about rapid weight loss, a claim that has yet to be conclusively proven and established.

The acai palm tree and its berries are native to the floodplains and swampy areas of Central and South America. The slender acai tree is a member of the Euterpe genus and grows to a height of 15 to 30 meters. The acai tree grows quite fast and a large number is being cultivated mainly due to burgeoning demand for the acai berries, as well as the hearts of palm.

Acai Tea BenefitsThe acai berry is a small, round, black-purple drupe that measures about an inch in diameter. They are produced in bunches of 700 to 900 fruits. The berry is pulpy and has a hard endocarp which contains a seed, which takes a huge portion of the space in the fruit. The acai berry is harvested as food. The fruit is utilized in various juice blends, smoothies, sodas, liqueur and even ice cream. The taste of the acai fruit is described by many as being a cross between red wine, berries and chocolate.

The acai berries usually begin to spoil within 24 hours of being harvested, and as such, must be quickly turned into juice, wine, or freeze dried in order to preserve their health benefits. Acai berries contain the following nutritional elements: omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, carbohydrates, and protein. They also contain vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium and iron.

Acai tea is usually created by combining freeze dried acai powder or acai juice with teas like green tea, black tea, rooibos tea and many herbal infusions. As such, the health benefits of the resultant acai tea blend incorporate those of the acai fruits and the individual tea that was used as base.

The following are the health benefits attributed to acai tea:

Acai tea may help promote cardiovascular functions.

Acai tea may help improve digestive functions.

Acai tea may help enhance the immune system.

Acai tea may help in boosting energy levels.

While acai tea is said to contribute to rapid weight loss, this claim has yet to be proven.
